European gas supply bottlenecks – Nord Stream alone not enough
When construction of the Nord Stream pipeline linking Russia and Germany started in early April, lingering doubts concerning the feasibility of this technically challenging project were finally dispelled. Dr Werner Rott, Nord Stream's deputy technical director, told the fifth Pipeline Technology Conference in Hanover that the pipeline would have an annual transport capacity of 55 billion cubic metres of natural gas. This would be enough to replace 50 medium-sized coal-fired power stations, but would still only make up a quarter of the expected shortfall in European gas supplies by 2030. The remaining annual shortfall of 149 billion cubic metres would have to be obtained from other sources.

Kingdom of Bahrain presents its National Master Plan for Sanitary Engineering at the Underground Infrastructure Middle East 2010
More than 120 km of new trunk sewers to be built in Bahrain with micro-tunnelling as preferred construction technique
The National Master Plan for Bahrain was developed during 2008/09 within the framework of the project “Consultancy Services for the Development of a National Master Plan for the Sanitary Engineering Services of the Kingdom of Bahrain” that was commissioned by the Bahrain Ministry of Works. The plan identifies the investment requirements for sanitary engineering services for the next 20 years and covers the whole wastewater system including sewers, wastewater treatment plants, the surface water drainage systems, and the bulk distribution system for the treated sewage effluent.

The successful combination of international conference and accompanying exhibition within the framework of HANNOVER MESSE - the world’s most important technology event - is continued in 2010.
For the 5th consecutive year the PTC is inviting the international pipeline community to exchange their knowledge and meet colleagues from all over the world. About 50% of the participants are coming from abroad, and people from 47 different nations attended so far, making the conference and exhibition a truly international event.
The conference will feature lectures and presentations on all aspects surrounding pipeline systems. Interested parties are invited to submit presentation proposals and/or to book their own small booth at the accompanying exhibition.
